The Superfly Bonsai Tree Starter Kit includes three very popular and common bonsai trees seeds for you to love and grow to full bonsai trees.

The Superfly Bonsai kit includes the seeds of Japanese Black Pine, Japanese Purple Wisteria and the Dawn Redwood. The kit was developed and instructions written by professional bonsai growers to give you the best chance possible for success.
Level 1 Kit - This kit includes everything necessary to get your bonsai started and growing along with detailed instructions. Level 1 kits include the seeds of three bonsai trees, coir biodegradable starter pots, expanding soil wafers, tree type plant markers, pruning shearer/wire cutter combo scissors, bonsai book and a quick start guide.
Level 2 Kit - This kit includes everything necessary to grow your bonsai for the first 3-5 years. Level 2 kits include the seeds of three bonsai trees, plastic germination pots, professional germination soil, plastic bonsai training pots, plastic bonsai drip trays, premium bonsai soil, natural based bonsai fertilizer, bonsai book and a quick start guide.
Level 3 Kit - This kit includes everything necessary to grow your bonsai for the first 5-10 years. Level 3 kits include everything in level 2 kits plus some starter wire, pruning shearer/wire cutter combo scissors and a soil scoop. The plastic germination pots were replaced with a 6 section mini greenhouse.
Please Note: Finished Bonsai and Round Bonsai Pot Not Included. Extra seeds are provided as not all seeds will germinate and grow - this is just nature. Each batch of seeds is tested prior to shipping and germinate at 80% or higher. Many factors can contribute to seeds not growing or plants not making it. Superfly Bonsai is not responsible for seeds that do not germinate or plants that die. We have taken every precaution possible to help you be successful with your bonsai kit. Traditional Bonsai Tree Starter Seed Kit - Black Pine, Wisteria & Dawn Redwood
I received everything and it was packaged really well. I was disappointed that I paid a little extra for 2 day shipping but it still took a week. I live in Indiana, and when I got the package I was disappointed that it states not to start in the winter and it was October when I got it. Wish it said that on the website itself, but I thought I would give it go anyways. I have a spare empty room in my house that gets excellent sunlight and gets really warm in there no matter what time of day, my main concern was are they going to get enough sunlight with the days being shorter. You only get three wisteria seeds, which is a shame, but they are pretty good sized seeds, several of the pine and of the redwood. I followed the directions to a T, two of my wisterias got mold on them, I don't know how, the other one never sprouted so I was quite disappointed that all three of my seeds were wasted, I only planted two of the redwoods, they still haven't sprouted and it's been about 20 days since they were planted. I planted two of the black pine, I just checked on them today and one is germinated. I am inexperienced in bonsais but do a lot of growing of other plants. I will say I am pleased with this product just disappointed in myself wondering what I did wrong with my wisterias but I will try again. This would make a great gift for someone who loves gardening and maybe has experience on bonsais.
They were the 1st & only people I have bought the kits from since I am just starting to get into bonsai & they make it really easy & helpful to understand how to take care of the seeds (my wisteria & black pine have already sprouted!). They provide all the materials you need. My only teeny tiny wish lthough isnI do miss when they used to provide the plastic training pots (although i can understand maybe they had to cut costs a little bit due to the pandemic so no worries!!) & they now include shears which I dont think ill be able to use for at least a few years & would be ok with them not including the shears since I will likely end up misplacing them. but I really do like this company & put their sticker on my car to help advertise because I love learning about bonsai & I feel this company really does too. If I want to have a small indoor bonsai (pot about 6-7 inches in diameter and about 3-4 inches deep), is the level 1 kit fine or should i also plan to buy the level 2 one?
The level of the kit will have no effect on the size of the tree. If you don't mind purchasing your own pots and soil in the future, the level 1 kit will be fine. The pots and soil of the level 1 kit are temporary so you will need to buy both within a year.
Please note: The trees in the traditional kit will NOT be good as indoor trees, they will die. If you want to keep the trees inside, you will want to go with our tropical kit.
If I order the Level 1 kit, how long would it be before I need the additional supplies in the Level 2 kit?
You could get away with the level 1 kit for 4 or 5 months before you need to transplant. You can transplant into 5 gallon buckets or any other container with holes. The tree will not be able to survive in the little pots and will quickly fill the pot with roots this time of year.
How long to grow from start to the tree in picture (approximately)
That black pine is in the National Bonsai Museum. It would take many years to start from seed and end up with a tree like that. The problem with bonsai is that their growth is stunted so the age of a tree is tough to pinpoint. I would guess that tree is 50 years old. To get a tree that size it would take 10 - 15 years in a large pot or in the ground. You would then need to cut it back and develope it into a bonsai over another 5-10 years. Wisteria and dawn redwood both grow much faster.

How do I Check the Status of my Order?

Show Pickup & The Superfly Express
We attend 7-10 shows a year (if not cancelled), mostly on the east coast. Please check our calendar to see if we may be attending a show close to your location, and we can arrange to bring your order for pickup at the show. No minimum.
We started the Superfly Express shortly after the Covid-19 pandemic started. We did this as a way to get products to wholesale customers with no shipping fee. We basically will deliver your order on one of our trips to your area for free if the order is over $1000 and you are close to our route. We will also deliver retail customers orders over $1000 if they don't want to utilizer our free shipping for whatever reason. We currently only travel east of the Mississippi river and have 4 routes.
